Speech Therapy
What is Speech Therapy?
Speech-Language Pathology is a field of expertise practiced by a clinician known as a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP). An SLP specializes in the evaluation and treatment of communication disorders, cognition, voice disorders, and swallowing disorders. A common misconception is that speech language pathology is restricted to correcting pronunciation difficulties, such as helping English speaking individuals enunciate the “s” and “f” sounds or helping people who stutter to speak more fluently. Speech-Language Pathology is correlated with a broad scope of speech, language, swallowing, and voice issues involving communication.
We provide evaluations and treatment for any speech disorder and determine the best treatment options for each individual client. All treatment sessions are one-on-one, with the exception of collaborative treatment. Collaborative treatment is open to any teacher, therapist or other approved participants. (Collaborative treatment must be approved by your insurance and release of any personal health information must be approved by the patient or legal guardian.)

ABA Therapy
What is ABA Therapy?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the application of the principles of Behavior Analysis. Behavior reduction and skill acquisition goals are identified according to social significance, and those goals are targeted with individualized programming. ABA utilizes principles such as positive reinforcement to teach appropriate behaviors to replace potentially harmful behaviors, and these interventions are analyzed based on four functions of behavior: escape or avoidance, attention, access to tangibles, and automatic reinforcement (sensory). In addition to intervening in potentially harmful behaviors, ABA can target deficits in communication, socialization, and activities of daily living, such as toileting. ABA therapy has been endorsed by the U.S. Surgeon General and the American Academy of Pediatrics, and it is recognized as one of the most effective, evidence-based treatments for Autism Spectrum Disorder.
What ABA services are available through Behavioral Transformations?
All therapy provided through Behavioral Transformations is direct 1 to 1, with the exception of some social skills groups. All of our therapists are required to obtain their Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification within 60 days of hire, if they are not already certified. All cases have an assigned supervisor who manages the programs and the training of the staff for each case. At a minimum, 10% of the hours attended will be directly supervised by a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst or a Board-Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst. Parent training is also provided on a regular basis, and it is an important part of ABA, as it promotes generalization of skills learned in the clinic to the home environment. Behavioral Transformations also provides social skills groups for varying age groups and skill levels.

What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational therapy (OT) specializes in helping people of all ages achieve or return to their optimal level of independence with everyday tasks (also known as “occupations”). For children, their daily occupations include activities related to play, self-care, education, social participation, and rest/sleep. An occupational therapist is trained in the evaluation and treatment of various skill deficits that impact a child’s participation in their occupations. Deficits may include motor, sensory processing, social-emotional, or cognitive systems and associated skills that directly affect a child’s success with self-care tasks and daily routines.
We provide OT-specific evaluations and treatment that are individualized to each client and their family’s needs. All treatment sessions are one-on-one and focused on addressing each client’s customized plan of care.
Instructional Methods
Discrete Trial Training (DTT)
-Highly structured and intense form of ABA and typically occurs at a table. Each teachable moment is planned, separate, and distinct. Each target is typically repeated various amounts of time during a teaching session. DTT is beneficial for students whom benefit from repetition.
Natural Environment Training (NET)
-A more natural form of ABA. Often times is conducted in the patient’s typical environment. Everyday household objects and toys are used as teaching materials. The rewards for correct responses are natural. The therapist has a list of targets and they are inserted in games and play. NET training is meant to be administered without the patient realizing they are having to work.
Pivotal Response Training (PRT)
-Another form of natural ABA. Used to teach language, decrease disruptive/self-stimulatory behaviors, and increase social/communications skills. This is accomplished by focusing on pivotal behaviors that have an affect on a wider range of behaviors. The goal of PRT is to produce positive changes in the pivotal behaviors and the patient’s ability to monitor his or her own behavior.
